Perú deporta a 5 turistas, acusados de dañar al templo de Machu Picchu
Las autoridades peruanas deportaron a cinco turistas y arrestaron a un sexto hombre después de que el grupo causó que un pedazo de un muro de piedra cayera y agrietara el piso de las famosas ruinas incas en los Andes, dijo la Policía Nacional.
Los turistas fueron atrapados justo antes de las 6 am del domingo por miembros del personal que trabajan en el parque arqueológico, dijo el Ministerio de Cultura en un comunicado el martes, identificándolos como cuatro hombres y dos mujeres de Argentina, Chile, Brasil y Francia.
El ministerio dijo que había evidencia de que el grupo se había infiltrado ilegalmente en el sitio el sábado por la noche y había dañado un muro de piedra en el Templo del Sol al hacer que una pieza cayera unos 20 pies y agrietara el piso. También se encontró materia fecal en el sitio
El miércoles, cinco de los turistas fueron deportados a Bolivia, dijo la Policía Nacional del Perú. Un turista argentino, Nahuel Gómez, de 28 años, fue acusado de cometer un delito contra el patrimonio cultural y permaneció bajo custodia en Perú.
La oficina de Cusco del Ministerio de Cultura dijo en un comunicado el miércoles que Gómez había admitido haber causado daños en la pared del templo y haber entrado ilegalmente al parque antes del amanecer.
José Bastante, jefe de trabajo arqueológico en Machu Picchu, pidió a las autoridades que determinen rápidamente la responsabilidad y castiguen el delito.
El Ministerio de Cultura, condenando la conducta de los turistas, dijo que los visitantes nacionales y extranjeros deben respetar y proteger el patrimonio arqueológico del Perú.
Machu Picchu, encaramado a 2.430 metros sobre el nivel del mar y con vistas a los abismos que descienden a la selva, atrae a miles de visitantes diarios y se ha convertido en uno de los sitios turísticos más reconocidos del mundo. Fue un centro religioso y político para el estado inca después de su construcción en el siglo XV y contiene más de 200 estructuras y una espectacular piedra y arquitectura.
El Templo del Sol es una estructura semicircular construida alrededor de una gran roca en la parte inferior de una colina y alineada para que cuando ocurra el solsticio de verano, la luz brille a través de una ventana y se alinee con la roca y la cima de un pico de montaña cercano. Después de la conquista española de los incas, el sitio remoto fue abandonado en gran medida .
Más de 450 años después, la creciente popularidad de Machu Picchu está generando preocupaciones entre los funcionarios y arqueólogos peruanos que esperan proteger el sitio del patrimonio mundial de la UNESCO . Según los informes, varios turistas fueron detenidos por tomar fotos de desnudos en el sitio en 2014, y las autoridades advirtieron a los turistas que no se lleven escombros como recuerdos.
